A Better World through Child Sponsorship

Child sponsorship enables a common person in an evolved country to aid a child from a poorly developed part of the world until he can become independent. This aid consists in money, clothes, moral support and anything that can make a difference. This practice is usually conducted through a child sponsorship organization which deals with money transfers and contacts between sponsors and children. Though they are sometimes blamed for creating cultural gaps between children of the 3rd world, the child sponsorship organizations are the ones that strive to give a helping hand when everyone else has turned their backs to the fate of the unfortunate. Child sponsorship focuses on needy children who lack even minimal food, water and shelter and who live a tough life without anyone caring for them or providing them with an education.

Some of the most affected countries are Paraguay, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia and Brazil and each presents a different challenge for child sponsorship organizations. 1. Brazil is one special case as this is a country of extremes. Rich neighborhoods coexist near slums and shack towns. Children are often used for labor here and education is almost non-existent. 2. Colombia is a country torn by wars where child sponsorship is hard to find. Children there are often trained to become soldiers or bombers and the only education they get is meant to teach them how to use a weapon. 3. Honduras is divided into very rich and extremely poor. Child sponsorship organizations have a hard time getting over the corruption and poverty. Housing is minimal and education is the same. Only 24 % of the population is able to read, therefore this country needs immediate child sponsorship. 4. Guatemala is the place where almost all the children are unhappy. The rate of infant death is high and education is poor. Child sponsorship could really do some good here by help at least some of the 60% of children that live in rural areas. They are the ones that are put to work in the fields early in their life. 5. Peru is a country where most of the children are not well educated. A child sponsorship program would really help in a country where most of the population is very poor and in need of desperate help. 6. However beautiful Paraguay is, 60% of its population suffers of poverty. The children are the ones with the biggest problems. Reports show that 1 third of them never finish school because they can’t speak the national language.

NGOs, as child sponsorship organizations are also called, have no profit out of the activity they lead. This is why frauds appear all of the time. There are some false child sponsorship organizations that actually take the money for their personal interests instead of delivering it to the children. However true this may be, there are still some people that want to do good to poor souls in need. They deserve to be given the chance to save someone if they can and if they are willing to. One should not generalize and say all child sponsorships are fakes because of some exceptions. Contacting a child sponsorship organization is quite simple. One can use communication by mail, fax or through the Internet. Some companies allow persons to send payment VIA e-mail or by using online payment. There are two ways to sponsor a child. Periodical payment is one of them and it is the most benefit for a child.

It is not gratitude that makes the best payment a person can receive from a child, but knowing he has made a positive change in the world and his actions will reflect in many more in turn.

Sponsor A Child

Nothing can tug at your heartstrings as much as a child in need. We have all watched television advertising showing such sad events as child poverty in Peru and urging us to sponsor a child, and many individuals do exactly that. Some people may want to find out more about sponsoring a third world child before deciding to do this, so some research might be helpful.

Whether you prefer a religion-based children charities depends on your own beliefs. There are Christian charities and charities for most other major world religions, as well as ones with no religious affiliation at all. Secular charities include the United Nations and other international organizations.

More often than not, individuals who want to sponsor a child in need in Peru, donate to non-profit groups, set up for that particular cause. Such donations are tax-deductible expenses. The books and records of such groups are closely scrutinized by the government. Ultimately, how your money will be put to use depends on the individual organization’s philosophy, so do your research well before donating.

When you sponsor a needy child, you want to be sure the money will definitely go to children and not to fancy brochures, elaborate television promotion or inflated executive salaries and perks. Fortunately, you can go online and look for charity evaluators that will tell you how much of a charity’s funds go specifically to a child to meet their needs and how much is overhead, salary, etc. These evaluators will also let you know how big the group is and how long it has existed.

Don’t discount an organization just because it isn’t listed, but make sure to ask more questions if this is the case. If it’s important to you to specify a certain country, the gender of the child you’re sponsoring, or getting standard communication or updates on your child, make sure you learn those things before donating. Each organization asks for slightly different amounts, but the typical monthly donation is $25 to $30 a month.

By our standard of living, the cost to sponsor a child is a pittance, but in the third world, it can be a matter of life and death. A little money to us can equal most of the budget in a poor nation. This small change can mean having enough to eat, getting an education, having housing and clothes and even getting to see a doctor.

It is often a great plan to have a group sponsor a child, such as a Sunday or religious school class or scout troop or even large families. This way the cost per person can be very small, but the child gets the help he or she needs.

The Importance Of Childhood Education

Without going into detailed child psychology a new born baby is largely devoid of experiences outside of its mother. By the child’s second day it has doubled all the experiences of day one. If you are twenty years old you would need to be forty before you doubled your life experiences, so you can see a young child’s experience of the world is far greater than an adult’s.

The emotional accumulation of positive and negative experiences has far more effect in childhood. This is amplified by the fact that a child does not start to reason, or think things out until it is much older.

Let’s say for example later in life you had someone tell you that you are as dumb as a fence post, you would look at the person who said it and evaluate very quickly how much weight you would give to their opinion. If it’s a psychiatrist in a white coat you would take him seriously. If it’s a drunk in a bar looking for a fight, you certainly wouldn’t believe that what he said was true.

Right education for your child begins with observation. Seeing there reactions and movements. Children do not have the logic of thinking until they are much older, which is why they are so susceptible to what we say.

Understanding and observing there needs and encouraging them with positive feelings along with being there for them with your tender care and support, will help provide the child with all it needs to live a happy and healthy life. This will give your child the confidence it needs to ask questions and to understand and live intelligently.
